Timothy Weekes, Ed.D., assistant professor of education has been selected to present two research papers at the American Education Research Association (AERA) Annual Meeting in New York City on April 13-17, 2018.
Weekes will be co-presenting his paper, "Re-Envisioning the Ed.D. Dissertation: Practical Action, Visions for Leadership, and Reflections on the Journey" with the San Francisco State Educational Leadership Program Chair Barbara Henderson. This paper builds on research Weekes completed at SF State, where he analyzed dissertations written by students from a California state university’s educational leadership program to determine if their dissertations were mostly practical, as compared to theoretical. The findings recommended that Ed.D. programs should adopt a four-chapter dissertation format, ideal for practical dissertations, that SF State is currently piloting. The paper will be presented in a session titled, “Education and Professional Doctorates: Impacts and Innovation,” sponsored by the SIG-Graduate and Postdoctoral Education across the Disciplines.
The second presentation, "Urban Charter School Pedagogy" is based on Weekes’ dissertation research, which investigated high performing charter schools that served low-income African-American students. The paper will be presented in a session titled, “Black Education in a Variety of Spaces and Places,” hosted by the SIG-Research Focus on Black Education.
