Degrees Offered
Bachelor of Arts in Computers and Communication
Minor in Computer Science
About the Major

In the last decades of the 20th century, the impact of computer technology radically transformed how we communicate. Information technology has become the leading industry in the world. Computers, information processing, and communication will shape the 21st century. To prepare students for this fast growing field, Holy Names University offers an innovative major in Computers and Communication to meet the marketplace demands for technical expertise. The goal of the major is to prepare students for careers in computers, communication, business, or industry, where they will be expected to provide technical expertise in solving problems of information processing and communication. Designed for the individual who seeks marketable knowledge, the course offerings are oriented toward applications and skills that are and will likely remain in demand in the marketplace. Recognizing that methods of computing and information processing are changing rapidly, the curriculum is broad, well-balanced, and future-oriented. It gives students a firm foundation in Computer Science through a rigorous study of fundamentals, and provides a strong focus on the burgeoning area of computer-based communication, including computer-aided design, web authoring, and development of on-line tools. Students cap their studies with internships, where they have the opportunity to apply knowledge obtained in classes to the real world, bring their learning into focus, and enhance their potential for future employment.

Career Options
The College's location, in the heart of the urban, high-tech Bay Area and near Silicon Valley, provides students with unique opportunities for internships, summer employment, and careers in the computer and communication fields. Most graduates will pursue careers in computer-based communication, business applications of software, computer information systems, computer graphics, animation, media production, or other applied technical fields. Others will find the bachelor's degree the ideal preparation for more advanced degrees.
