Coauthor: "Through Other Eyes: Developing Empathy and Multiple Perspectives in the Social Studies", with Skolnick, Joan and Dulberg, Nancy, Pippin Press, 1999.
Dr. Maestre received her teaching credential at Holy Names University in 1971. She taught grades one through six in the Oakland Unified School District until 1995. In addition, from 1985 through 1992 she served as a consultant for Bernice McCarthy's 4MAT System, a curriculum development system designed to meet the needs
of learners of varying learning styles.
Currently, Dr. Maestre is co-leader, with Dr. Kimberly Mayfield, in a faculty development program that is in its third year. The focus of the work is designing curriculum to meet the needs of a multicultural undergraduate student population. They have worked with nineteen faculty members from a variety of disciplines including Science, Sociology, Psychology, Religious Studies, English, Linguistics, Art and Spanish. |

Bio
Her current interests include a focus on social studies
education, both in developing materials for elementary students and also for thinking
about how student teachers and interns can develop the habits of mind and heart for
effective teaching in multicultural communities. She has presented her work in
conferences over the last decade. These include the following:
