About the Programs
The Education Department at Holy Names University, historically and to the present day, has focused on preparing qualified and committed educators for the urban schools of Oakland and nearby cities. Its location, the quality of its programs, and the faculty's experience in and commitment to urban schools make it uniquely qualified to carry out that mission.
The Department's distinctive urban focus and the quality of its programs and faculty are recognized by school districts, by peer organizations and by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing, which has continuously accredited the offered programs at the highest level. The current programs are fully compliant with SB2042, the most recent state regulations governing credentials. SB2042 now replaces CLAD (Cross Cultural, Language, and Academic Development) emphasis.
