Many writers teach. With a master’s degree in English you are qualified to teach writing at colleges and some universities. In The Writer’s Craft you work with our faculty to learn current teaching methods and philosophies. Holy Names University offers opportunities to teach writing through internships, to be mentored by faculty, and to engage in graduate pedagogy research.
The Writer’s Crafts facilitates mentoring internships in which students develop relationships with potential employers. Holy Names University offers pedagogy classes in how to teach both creative writing and composition.
Those students who plan to enter doctoral studies after completion of The Writer’s Craft will find the teaching aspect of this program to be tremendously helpful. It both professionalizes their applications, and gives a basis of knowledge for potential teaching work at their next level of study. Many students find doctoral work is largely funded through teaching. This work is made both easier and stronger with a foundation achieved through The Writer’s Craft.
