Teaching Credential in Education

The Teacher Education programs at Holy Names University aim at the finest preparation of professional teachers whose competencies include the State-adopted Teaching Performance Expectations:

  1. Making subject matter comprehensible to students, using State - adopted Content Standards and Frameworks, and other curriculum resources
  2. Assessing student learning using multiple measures including the Performance Assessment of California Teachers (PACT)
  3. Engaging and supporting students in learning, always understanding the impact of social, affective and cognitive factors
  4. Planning instruction and designing learning experiences for students; addressing the individual needs of children and young persons in urban schools
  5. Creating and maintaining effective environments for student learning

Education Specialist: Mild/Moderate Curriculum

This credential prepares individuals to teach children and young adults with mild to moderate disabilities including: specific learning disabilities, language disabilities, autism, mild mental retardation, emotional difficulties, and behavioral disorders. Credential candidates select the Multiple Subject (31 units) or the Single Subject (32 units) option. The general education courses completed as a part of the Education Specialist: Mild/Moderate Credential may be credited toward the completion of the Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential.

* Early Completion Option (ECO) for credential programs is available for exceptionally qualified students who may waive foundation coursework by passing a state exam. Remaining course requirements, including student teaching, must be completed.
