English: The Writer's Craft
“In our program, we like to say that our students are people who ‘live to write and write to live,’ which means that there is no distinction between our passion and our profession”

Associate Professor of English

Master’s Degree in English

The Writer's Craft

Note: Enrollments are now open for Spring and Fall 2015.

Our writing philosophy: Most good writing, in any area, at its root, describes what is real and specific.

If you think this statement is accurate, or intriguing, or even provocative, then you should take a look at The Writer’s Craft.

The Writer’s Craft is a 33-unit Master of Arts degree in English that is designed for people who “live to write and write to live,” which means that we encourage our students to give expression to their creative energies, and we equip them with the skills to teach and write in professional and academic settings. In fact, our unique program allows students to customize their degree, combining the areas of Creative Writing, Professional Writing, and Teaching Writing.

Our workshops and seminars are offered primarily in an evening, accelerated format, and some can be completed online. And because we continually recruit outstanding visiting faculty, each term offers new opportunities for instructors and students to sharpen their skills and pursue their passion together.
