Teaching Credential: Multiple Subject

The Multiple Subject Credential program prepares teachers for the urban schools of Oakland and nearby cities, in public, charter and private school settings. The program seeks to include teacher candidates of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds who reflect the community.

The faculty is particularly suited to preparing teachers for urban classrooms. Fulltime faculty have had extensive experience in local urban schools and doctorates related to urban education. In addition to teaching the core courses, they serve as field supervisors, academic advisors and mentors. Adjunct faculty members, who teach many of the curriculum courses, are outstanding educational leaders who work in city school systems and community organizations.

Multiple Subject candidates may choose either the student teaching route or the intern teaching route in which one is the teacher-of-record in a classroom while earning a credential.

Supervision during field placements is designed to provide ongoing support for candidates. Supervisors are insightful, compassionate and knowledgeable about urban settings.
