Holy Names offers the most comprehensive, colleague-based pedagogy training on the West Coast, beginning with three classes of physiology and pedagogy (Vocal Pedagogy, Advanced Vocal Pedagogy and Children’s Vocal Pedagogy). This is combined with two semesters of practicum, where you will teach a student under the guidance of two master teachers (whose teaching experience includes all age and skill levels) and exchange feedback with your cohort of fellow teachers.
Students participate in a weekly Vocal Forum (coaching class) and have frequent opportunities to perform on campus in recitals, concerts, Opera Workshop and ensembles. There are also myriad professional and volunteer performance opportunities in the greater San Francisco Bay Area.
Successful completion of this degree will qualify you to teach vocal technique, repertoire and related topics in a class, studio or academic setting. Graduates of our program are pursuing successful careers in all areas of the vocal arts from coast to coast.
