The Pre-Law program at Holy Names University is designed for those students who plan to enroll in law school after graduation. Most accredited law schools require a Bachelor's Degree, an excellent scholastic record and a high score on the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). A degree from HNU will help students achieve these requirements as well as equip them with the skills necessary for later success in law school and the practice of law.
An undergraduate education in the liberal arts is the best preparation for students interested in law school. No specific major is required for law school, so students in the Pre-Law program will be assigned an advisor who will assist them with decisions regarding an appropriate major and relevant elective courses. Students are counseled to select a major which reflects their special interests and talents, and elective courses should be chosen to help develop strong writing, speaking, and analytical skills. These critical skills will be essential for success in LSAT preparation, applying to law school, competing while there, and passing the bar examination for licensure as an attorney.
Students obtain a Pre-law designation on their transcripts by taking 18 approved upper-division units as part of or in addition to their major.
