Bebe Faas Rice '53, BA in English - Author
A writer of books and stories for children and young people, Bebe's specialty is mysteries and thrillers for readers aged 8-16. The Place at the Edge of the Earth (Clarion Books, 2002), her 19th published novel, is available in bookstores now. A novel for children aged 10-14, The Place at the Edge of the Earth is the story of a friendship between a contemporary girl and the ghost of an American Indian boy who died in 1880. It deals with the infamous and often brutal Indian schools of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Her short story "The Man Who Killed the King" was selected for the anthology Julie Nixon Eisenhower's Favorite Stories for Children. Bebe's novel Class Trip was nominated for a 1994 Edgar Award. She lives in Falls Church, Virginia.

Carol Larkin '65, Single Subject Credential, Art
An art teacher at Holy Names High School for 35 years, Larkin's "work with the students has been celebrated by generations and every one of her Advanced Placement Students has passed the AP art examination," wrote Sister Slyngstad in nominating Larkin for the Mother Seton Award, awarded annually by the diocesan school department. A graduate of both Holy Names High and Holy Names University, Carol is known as a community builder, a champion for the poor, and a lover of animals.

Kathleen Dombrink '67, BA in Chemistry - Recipient of 2001 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science Teaching.
A high school chemistry teacher for over 30 years in suburban St. Louis, Missouri, Kathleen flew to Washington, D.C., to accept this prestigious award. Only one high school and one K-8 science teacher per state receive this award annually. The Presidential Award is sponsored by the National Science Foundation "to recognize a combination of sustained and exemplary work both in, and outside of, the classroom." Kathleen participated in the 1998 Fulbright Memorial Fund Master Teach Program and is also the recipient of the Tandy Technology Scholar Award (1995), the Chemical Manufacturers Assoc. Regional Award for High School Chemistry Teaching (1984) and the American Chemical Society Midwest Regional Award for High School Chemistry Teaching (1983).

Agnieszka Winkler '67, BA in History - Chairman and Founder, ValueStorm, Inc; Founder and CEO, TeamToolz; Founder and CEO, Winkler Advertising.
With 30 years of marketing and advertising experience, Agnieszka is starting her third business. She led the founding and successful sale of TeamToolz, a marketing collaboration and workflow software company to Artesia Technologies the fall of 2001. Prior to starting TeamToolz, Agnieszka was founder and CEO of Winkler Advertising, an $80M San Francisco advertising agency. Agnieszka has received numerous awards, including: Best Woman in Advertising sponsored by McCall's and ADWEEK; Ad Age's 100 Best and Brightest Women in Marketing and Advertising; Who's Who in Finance and Industry; Ad Age's 25 Women to Watch; the Who's Who of American Women; The International Directory of Distinguished Leadership and many others. She was recently named chair of the American Association of Advertising Agencies, Northern California Council. A frequent speaker at ad industry meetings and events, she is the author of Warp Speed Branding: The Impact of Technology on Marketing (Wiley and Sons Inc.). She serves as a Regent for HNU.

Sara Jones-Gomberg '69, BA in Mathematics - Physician
Sara is an Ophthalmologist with SCPMG in Woodland Hills, California.

The Honorable Carol A. Corrigan '70, Psychology and Sociology - Justice, First District Court of Appeal
The Honorable Carol A. Corrigan '70, JD, Justice, First District Court of Appeal, received the St. Thomas More Award in San Francisco on October 21, 2004. The St. Thomas More Society of San Francisco presented its 36th annual St. Thomas More Award to Justice Corrigan at its annual Red Mass on Thursday, October 21, at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of Sts. Peter and Paul. The Most Reverend William J. Levada, Archbishop of San Francisco, was the principal celebrant. Named for St. Thomas More (1478-1535), the patron saint of lawyers, this prestigious award honors a lawyer or jurist for exemplary service, commitment to high ethical standards, and spiritual dedication to the humanistic principles espoused by St. Thomas More. Justice Corrigan was also named the 2004 Jurist of the Year by the California Judicial Council. She earned her law degree from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. After serving as a trial lawyer in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, Justice Corrigan sat as a judge of the Oakland Municipal Court and the Alameda County Superior Court, and was appointed Associate Justice of the California Court of Appeal, First District, Division Three, in 1994. In January 2006, Carol became the newest member of the California Supreme Court. She served as a Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Holy Names University and as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for Saint Vincent's Day Home.

Barbara E. Hood '70, BA in English - President and chief executive officer for Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services.
Barbara oversees operations for Northern California Presbyterian Homes and Services, a not-for-profit public benefit corporation with three continuing care retirement communities, three affordable housing communities for seniors, and a wide range of community services. She has over twenty years' experience in health care administration and earned her Masters of Public Administration (emphasis in health services) from the University of San Francisco. Barbara serves on the HNU Board of Trustees and was honored as Woman of the Year by Women Health Care Execs in 1996.

J. Barry Costa '74, BA in Sociology, '75 Multiple Subject Credential
Now the Lead ESL teacher at Castro Valley Adult School in Castro Valley, California, Barry taught English for 20 years in the junior-senior high school department of Showa Women's University in Tokyo. He developed the 7th grade team teaching English curriculum in use throughout Japan.

Patricia Masri-Fletcher '76, Bachelor of Music - Principal harpist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
Patricia received her master's degree at Julliard and joined the Detroit Symphony in 1988. She has performed with the Symphony on six of their recordings and also released a duet CD with a flutist.

Jackie Stevenson '00, BA in Business Administration and Communication, '03 MBA - Vice President/Northern California Regional Manager, Cash Management, Bank of the West.
A graduate of HNU's WECO program, Jackie was an assistant vice president at the Bank of Walnut Creek before joining Bank of the West. She currently manages a staff of 60. She was a member of Bank of the West's President's Club in 2000 and 2001.
