HNU Ends Season with Win Over CAL
Club Team in 5
Oakland , CA - The Hawks did not go quietly into the end

CAL Bears Club team for the win, 2-3, in five games (30-23, 23-30,
30-28, 27-30, 14-16). HNU finishes the year at 9-13 overall, with
hopes that the inconsistencies that have plagued them throughout the
season can be overcome with a little change of perspective. That perspective
changed when the Hawks were able to finish game 5 after CAL tied it
at 14.
CAL's Peter Salatich, Ivan Kovacevic and Neil Cline each had 11 Kills
for the Bears, but none of them were able to post positive hitting
percentages in the loss. Kovacevic put up 6 Blocks and Zack
Kass tossed up 38 Assists.
HNU's Chad Miller slammed 21 Kills home, while Erik Joller and Kevin
McColloch each added 18 Kills to the count. Riley Tang had 53
Assists and the highest Kill percentage at .444 (5 K's). Joller

the HNU Hawks.

2007 Tough Schedule is Rollercoaster
Ride for Men's Volleyball -
Latest Win Pushes HNU into Consideration for Top 10
Oakland, CA - HNU's Men's Volleyball team has
been playing hard the past few weeks, meeting some of the best teams
in the nation, learning that there are definite peaks and valleys
within a season that just have to be ridden out.
When last reported, the Hawks were coming off a disappointing road
trip to Riverside, playing against the #1 ranked Cal Baptist and top
ten team Cardinal Stritch of Wisconsin. HNU bounced back to defeat
San Jose State University club team 3-1 (20-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-23).
Things were looking up when the Hawks went to the Lindenwood Tourney
for play on Jan uary 27 th and 28 th in Missouri, where they defeated
Moody Bible in the first round, 3 games to none. Then came matches
against top ten powerhouses Lindenwood (MO), Missouri Baptist and
Graceland (IA). HNU lost 1-3, 0-3, and 2-3, respectively, resulting
in hard fought matches, all of them, to be sure.
February found the Hawks playing at UC-Santa Cruz (L, 0-3) and Fresno
State (L, 0-3) before heading to the Davis FarWestern Tournament with
play against the club teams of Sacramento State (L, 2-1), UC-Santa
Barbara (W, 2-0), Fresno State (W, 2-0), UCLA (L, 0-2), Cal Poly (W,
2-0), and UC-Davis (L, 0-2). The tournament generated a 3-3 record
for the weekend.
HNU's match against UC-Berkeley's club team was called due to a power
outage on February 22, while the Hawks were in the midst of winning
game 2. The match is due to be rescheduled at a later date.
February 23 found the Hawks playing Hope International, the sixth
top ten rated team HNU has faced this season. The Hawks played a great
match but dropped the match 3-2 (22-30, 30-28, 29-31, 30-16, 15-11).
HNU will have an opportunity at a rematch against Hope on March 19
th , at Hope in Fullerton.
HNU next faced their seventh top ten opponent, Johnson and Wales (CO),
in Riverside, on March 3, where the Hawks thumped the 8th ranked J&W
0-3 for the win. This showing prompted one of the four National rater's
to vote for HNU into the top ten ranking at the 10th position, but
we missed the ranking.
The Hawks have an overall record against NAIA/NCAA schools of 4-7,
with a record of 4-4 against club teams. The season continues with
a home game against UC-Santa Cruz on March 9 th , Saint Mary's on
