Nick Lusson Named as Women's Soccer
Head Coach
Oakland, CA -
Melanie Gregor, Holy Names University Director of Athletics,
announced today that Nick Lusson joins the coaching staff as Women's
Soccer Head Coach after a nationwide search.
"The applicant pool
was very highly qualified and we're pleased that Nick has decided
to take the helm of our Women's Soccer program," said Gregor.
Lusson comes from the
local Bay Area, with extensive experience in high school and club
soccer organizations. He will begin recruiting for the 2008 season
immediately, while meeting with the current team to develop a strategy
for the upcoming season of competition.

2007 Cal Pac All-Conference Honors
Announced

- The California Pacific Conference announced the 2007
All-Conference Honors, which includes four Holy Names University
players. Congratulations to all of our athletes for a successful
2007 season!

Hawks
Seek New Coach, Risley Resigns
Oakland, CA - Holy Names Director of Athletics,
Melanie Gregor, announced today that, "Robert
Risley tendered his resignation as Co-Head Coach of the Women's
Soccer Program effective immediately. A search for a new
Women's Soccer Head Coach has begun. Risley will remain as
an asssitant with the men's program."
The
women's team ranked 3rd in Cal Pac this season with a 4-2 record.
The
coaching vacancy will be posted on the HNU website and contact for
application should be directed to HNU Human Resources. |

4 of last 6; Rank 3 in Cal Pac
Oakland, CA - The Hawks Women's Team defeated
Simpson, 2-1 and rounded out their regular season with two straight
victories and four wins in their last six starts to end up 5-10 overall
and 4-2 in California Pacific Conference play, ranking 3rd for the
season. |

29, 2007 UCSC Slugs
top Hawks 2-0
Oakland, CA – The NCAA Division II UC Santa Cruz Banana
Slugs slid past the Hawks this past Saturday. The Hawks (1-7)
faced their seventh loss of the season, as the Slugs (5-2-1) had their
third win in a row, with each of them shutouts. UCSC's
Danielle Mullen kicked off the scoring in the 20th minute, making
the goal off a deflection from a Hawks' shin into the net.
With fifteen minutes remaining in the 2nd half, UCSC sealed the
game with a penaly kick by Didi Ramirez as a result from a foul
to Wendy Funk in the box.
The Hawks came out strong,
with 3 corners in the first 10 minutes, but were unable to sustain
the attack for most of the game. HNU had 5 shots-on-goal,
but none of them made it to the back of the net. Goalkeeper Kayce
Garcia had 12 saves on 14 attempts. |

26, 2007 Menlo Slips
by HNU 3-2 Danville, CA
– The Holy Names Hawks didn't come back far enough against the
Menlo Oaks as they slipped by 3 goals to 2. The win gives the Oaks
(3-5) their first win in six games. The loss continues to frustrate
the Hawks (1-6).
Menlo's Megan Finney opened the scoring door early giving the Oaks
a goal at 1:33 in the first period. Ryanne Bergstrom added to that
in the first and Kristina Leydecker topped it off in the second for
the Oaks third goal. Goalie Samantha Hoffert made 7 saves.
The Hawks rallied late, scoring in the 88th and 89th minute of the
second half by Jessica Gottschalk and Sanna Petterson, respectively.
Gottschalk's goal was on a penalty kick. Goalkeeper Kayce Garcia made
8 saves on 11 shots on goal. |

Tops Hawks 2-0
Danville, CA - Hope International (6-1-1) ended a successful
three game road trip through Northern California with a 2-0 decision
against Holy Names. The loss by the Hawks follows a hopeful win just
two days before against CSU-EB. The Hawks (1-5) continue in their
attempt to find a consistent game winning strategy to salvage the
season.
Hope's Alexis Abbott, with an assist by Leslie White, and Harmony
Pruett with an assist by Yvonne Aguilar, each logged goals against
the Hawks in the first (30:28) and second periods (78:08), respectively.
The Royals return home 3-0 against Northern California schools and
6-1-1, overall.
HNU's Kayce Garcia provided 14 Saves against 16 shots on goal. Hawks
Annie Canalin had a team high 3 shots, 1 on goal, while Maria Gonzalez
and Lynsey Musante had 2 shots, apiece, each on goal.

15, 2007 Hawks Capture
Win over CSU-East Bay Hayward, CA
- HNU (1-4) garnered their first win of the season with a
1-0 shutout against the CSU-East Bay Pioneers. The win was very much
needed as the Hawks struggle this season to find a winning course
in a frustrating follow-up season to last year's Conference title.
The Pioneers managed to outshoot HNU with 20 shots and 12 shots on
goal, but East Bay couldn't find the net on any of their attempts.
Pioneer Michelle Garcia led East Bay with 6 shots, 3 on goal.
Hawk Christi Locke scored the unassisted game winning goal in the
75th minute of the second half. Goalkeeper Kayce Garcia registered
the shutout with 10 saves. |

8, 2007 Westmont
Cruises to Win over HNU Santa Barbara,
CA - The Westmont Warriors had no trouble against
a lackluster HNU team, and easily dispatched the Hawks 3-0. The Hawks
(0-4) weren't able to generate an offense and gave the Warriors plenty
of opportunities to reap the rewards.
Westmont 's Jenna Nelson and Kayla Barkett scored in the first half,
while Amy Lawson scored just into the second half for the Warriors.
HNU's Kayce Garcia had her hands full with 13 Saves against 19 Shots,
with 13 of them being shots on goal. The Hawks had one corner kick
for the match but couldn't produce any shots. |

4, 2007 Sunbirds
Stun Hawks in Home Opener Oakland,
CA - The Fresno Pacific Sunbirds (3-1-0) made the
most of their trip to Oakland overpowering the HNU Hawks 5-1 in the
Hawks (0-3) home opener. The Hawks were down 2 goals until just
before the half, making it 2-1 at the break. The second period
found a refreshed Sunbird squad scoring 3 goals that left the Hawks
wondering what had happened to their rally.
FPU scored 11 minutes into the game, followed by a penaly kick at
24 minutes. HNU's Sanna Petterson scored for the Hawks before
the whistle at 44 minutes but the Hawks went cold after the half and
didn't score again. The Sunbirds drove three additional goals
into the net against goalie Elise Foster, who had 11 saves on the
day. |

August 26,
2007 Hawks Battle SOU in 2-1
Loss in Overtime Ashland, OR
- Holy Names (0-2) suffered a second consecutive loss in as many days
while playing in Oregon, but it went down to the wire in overtime
for the Southern Oregon Raiders (1-0-1) to beat the Hawks. The win
brings SOU and Holy Names to a 1-1 series record, with the Hawks winning
3-2 during the 2003 season.
The Raiders' Kayla Wilhelm scored at 39 minutes, in answer to a first
goal by HNU. After a scoreless 2nd period, Sara Switzer scored
late in the overtime to seal the win for Tech.
Hawk Sanna Petterson scored the lone
goal for the team after drawing out and dribbling around the SOU
goalie in the 23rd minute of the first half. Petterson, led
the Hawks in shots with four (3 on-goal) while Melissa Grimmond
had two shots on the day. Holy Names only tallied eight shots
(6 on goal), while Tech had 23 shots (14 on goal). Goalkeeper
Elise Foster made 12 saves in the effort. |

2007 Hawks Overwhelmed
by Oregon Tech in Season Opener Klamath
Falls, OR - The Oregon Tech Owls notched their first
win of the 2007 season beating Holy Names University 5 -0. Tech's
strong scoring attack gave the Tech defense the win.
After a back and forth first half Tech led 1-0. OIT's Marcy
Toro started the scoring with a goal in the 37th minute. She
continued the trend in the second half with a shot at the 75:07 mark.
The flood gates then opened as Tech scored three more times before
the end of the match.
Holy Names (0-1) had more shots on goal,
nine to just seven for Oregon Tech, but the Owls outshot HNU 12-11.
Hawk Melissa Grimond led the Holy Names attack with three strong
shots on goal followed by Sanna Petterson with two shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Elise Foster, a last minute addition to the squad, managed
2 saves on 7 shots on goal. A missed penaly kick at the start
of the second period appeared to set the tone for the Hawks for
the rest of the match. |

Teams Open Saturday Oakland , CA
- Women's Soccer kicks off Saturday against Oregon Institute of Technology
at Klamath Falls, OR. The Men's Soccer team launches its 2007 season
Saturday with a match against Fresno Pacific at the Merritt College
Field at 5 pm.
