Tough Weekend Opener for 2007 at FPU Tournament

Fresno, CA - The 2007 Hawks went to the Fresno Pacific Volleyball Tournament without the majority of their new recriuts this past weekend, and that seemed to make the difference for the majority of the tournament.  HNU came home Saturday evening 0-4 to start the season.

Holy Names first met Asuza Pacific on Friday afternoon at 1pm.  The Hawks gave AP a run for their money during the first game, but ran out of steam during the match, with the result a 0-3 result; 27-30, 19-30, 9-30.  Miya Frank and Erica Reed led the Hawks with 9 kills apiece for the match, while Colleen Boston had a game high 14 digs.

Next up that evening was The Master's College.  The Hawks proved to be more tenacious this match but couldn't close the tight ones, ending 0-3 in the effort, but posting better scores; 27-30, 32-34, and 19-30.  Myia Frank slammed 13 kills home, with Jennifer Perkins and Erica Reed adding 8 each, and Alyssa Giannuzzi diving for a game high 18 digs.

Saturday brought HNU against Concordia (OR) in late morning, but HNU couldn't break the streak and the result was the same, losing 0-3; 16-30, 21-30, and 21-30.  Kendra Vasquez and Miya Frank shared team high kills at 7, while Erica Reed offered up a game high 10 digs.

Saturday afternoon found HNU playing the host team, Fresno Pacific and FPU didn't leave Holy Names any room for confidence or scoring, finishing the tournament with an 0-3 loss to the home team; 13-30, 23, 30, 16-30.  Erica Reed sent down a team high 7 Kills, with Kelly Cole reaching for 13 digs.

Holy Names will attempt to shake off the effects of the weekend and are preparing to meet Oregon Institute of Technology, home in Tobin Gym, on Wednesday, August 29th at 7pm.
