Melanie Gregor Named Interim Athletic Director
Oakland, CA - Holy Names University Vice President for Student Affairs, Michael Miller, announced the appointment of Melanie Gregor as Interim Director of Athletics and Recreation. She will also coach intercollegiate softball for the HNU Hawks. Gregor replaces Robin Martin who resigned from the university.
Since December 2006, Gregor has been the Associate Director of Athletics, Sports Information Director, and Head Softball Coach, spearheading the recruitment of the first-ever 20 member softball squad. Prior to her appointment at HNU, Coach Gregor was head coach and physical education instructor at Contra Costa College from 2003-2007 and the head women's varsity volleyball coach at the Athenian School in Danville from 2003-2007. She has also coached swimming and track and field.
The upcoming academic year marks an historic time for HNU Athletics as the Hawks inaugurate softball as an intercollegiate sport at the university. According to Gregor, she will, “Continue providing HNU with reliable leadership and seamless administration of the athletics programs. The Holy Names Athletics department continues to strive toward the balanced integration of exceptional academics coupled with outstanding athletics.”
Gregor received her MA in Sport Psychology at John F. Kennedy University , Pleasant Hill, in 2002 and her BS in Education from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1978.
With the addition of softball, HNU now has 10 sports including basketball, soccer, volleyball and cross country for women and men, as well as, men's golf. HNU teams play in the California Pacific Conference of the NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) where they have won numerous championships in recent years and last season sent the HNU Cal Pac championship men's basketball team on a repeat trip to the Division II National Tournament. |
