Golf Finishes 7th; Corona Named NAIA All-American
Strong Showing at Nationals
Olathe, KS - The HNU Men's Golf program finished up a very strong showing in their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance finishing in 7th place among the 27 teams participating. Holy Names finished a +35 after four days of play, three strokes behind Region II rival CSU San Marcos and well behind National Champion Johnson and Wales (FL) who blew away the field finishing a -19. The second place finisher, Oklahoma Christian shot a +9.
Holy Names improved each day of the tournament and shot a 290 on the fourth day, the tournaments best score of the final round. The Hawks sat in 10th place after day one, moved up to 9th place after day two and to 7th place after day three where they finished. Four of the top eight teams came from the West Coast's Region II as Point Loma Nazarene finished 4th, CSU San Moarcos finished 6th, Holy Names came in 7th and The Master's College ended up 8th.
In addition to the strong team showing, Holy Names senior Carlos Corona was named 1st Team NAIA All-American, one of just 15 golfers from around the country to receive the honor. The San Lorenzo, CA native becomes the first Holy Names golfer to receive All-American recognition of any kind. Corona shot a 297 in the National Tournament, 3 strokes behind teammate Brad Gershon who finished with a 294. Garrett Fogal shot a 299 while Matt Moreno and Brian Razzari both finished with a final score of 309.

HNU Moves Up a Spot
Olathe, KS - After two days of competition at the 2005 NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament the Holy Names golfers sit in 9th place among the 27 teams competing. The Hawks are collectively 23 shots over par, just two strokes behind regional rival The Master's College. Johnson % Wales University leads the pack by a large margin shooting 13 under after two days.
Holy Names shot a 301 on the first day putting them in 10th place and followed that up with a 298 which moved them up to their current position. After two days Garret Fogal, Brad Gershon and Matt Moreno are all tied for 36th place among the 140 golfers competing while teammate Carlos Corona dropped to 47th on day two after finishing in 12th place after day one. Holy Names Competes in National Tournament
The Holy Names Men's Golf team tee's off in their first ever NAIA National Tournament today in Olathe, KS. Holy Names, this year's California Pacific Conference champion, finished the season ranked #9 in the Nation and received an At-Large berth into the tournament. Receive At-Large Bid Into NAIA National Tournament
The wait is over for the 9th ranked Holy Names Men's Golf team as they received an At-Large bid into the NAIA National Tournament as announced by the NAIA today. After finishing third in the Region II Championship over two weeks ago and losing out on the region's automatic bid, Holy Names was forced to sit and wait for the tournament field to be announced. The Hawks, led by Head Coach Sigfried Wroebel, make their first appearance in the National Tournament.
The tournament wil be played at the Prairie Highlands Golf Course in Olathe, KS from May 24-27. The 141 player field will battle for the individual national championship while the 27 teams will compete for the team title. To view the tournament field click here.

Hawk Golfers Remain #9
Holy Names Men's Golf held steady at #9 on the latest NAIA National Rankings, the second straight ranking in which they occupied that spot. Holy Names got as high as #6 in the country before finishing third at the NAIA Region II Championship and dropping to their current #9 ranking.
The Hawks are still playing the waiting game for the National Tournament at large bids, but most likely will receive an invite based on their Top 10 rank. To view the latest poll click here.

A day after finishing third at the 2005 NAIA Region II Men's Golf Championships, the Holy Names golfers lost their #1 regional ranking and dropped three spots in the latest NAIA National Poll. The Hawks flip-flopped spots with Point Loma Nazarene, the regional winner, moving to #9 in the country while Nazarene replaced Holy Names in the sixth spot. With two rankings left before the National Tournament, Holy names remains in good position to receive one of the tournaments At-Large bids. Holy Names Falls Short at Regionals
Hawks Finish 3rd; 10 Shots Off the Pace
Lompoc, CA - #6 Holy Names University, fresh off their second consecutive Cal Pac Championship, fell short at the NAIA Region II Men's Golf Championship held at the La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc, CA. With five of the six teams competing ranked in the Top 25 the field proved to be a tough one. Holy Names finished 10 strokes off the pace of both Point Loma Nazarene and conference rival Notre Dame de Namur, as they shot a 912 over the three rounds. Point Loma won the tournament on a scorecard playoff breaking the tie with Notre Dame. Point Loma earns the region's automatic bid into the NAIA NAtional Tournament with their victory. The Hawks must now wait and hope to earn an At-Large bid into the National Tournament, given to the Nation's top ranked teams who do not win their way in.
Despite getting a tournament daily best 70 from Garrett Fogal on the opening round, Holy Names could never get rolling as a team shooting a 303 on each of the first two rounds before finishing with a 306. Fogal finished 4th with a 224, 7 strokes behind the leader, while teammate Carlos Corona came in fifth with a 225. Notre Dames' Joe Larson was the tournament's Individual Medallist shooting just one over par with a 217. To view the tournament's complete results click here.

Hawks Golfers Advance to NAIA Region II Tournament
San Mateo, CA - The Holy Names University Men's Golf program brought home their fourth California Pacific Conference title Monday with a win at the Cal Pac Championships hosted by Notre Dame de Namur. Holy Names, ranked #6 on the latest NAIA Men's Golf National Poll, wins their second consecutive title and fourth overall in just eight years of competition. Team and individual scoring was not immediately available.
Holy Names advances to the NAIA Region II Championship held at the La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc, CA April 18-19. Five of the Nation's Top 25 will compete in the tournament. Joining the Hawks in the 6-team field are fellow Cal Pac members Notre Dame de Namur (#24) and CSU East Bay as well as GSAC members Point Loma Nazarene (#9) and The Masters College (#18). Rounding out the field is NAIA independent CSU San Marcos, ranked 13th. The tournament champion as well as the individual medallist receive automatic qualification into the NAIA National Tournament held in Olathe, KS form May 24 to May 27.

#6 Hawks Look For 4th Title
The 6th ranked Holy Names University Men's Golf team looks to take home their fourth Cal Pac title in their short history today as they compete in the Cal Pac Championship hosted by Notre Dame de Namur. The top three teams in today's event will advance to the NAIA West Regional taking place in Lompoc, CA on April 18 and 19. The winner of the tournament will receive the region's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament.

Men Climb One Spot
After spending two week's sitting in the #7 spot on the NAIA Men's Golf National Rankings, the Hawks continued their journey into uncharted waters by jumping up to #6 on the latest poll. Holy Names remained the #1 ranked team in the NAIA Region II, appearing there for the first time in school history on the last ranking. The Hawks took first at the Cal Lutheran Invitational in their only competition. Carlos Corona posted the tournaments best score with a 141 and was the only player to finish under par.

Hawks Ranked #7 in the Nation
The Holy Names University Men's Golf program reached new heights this week landing in the #7 spot on the latest NAIA National Poll. Holy Names opened the year ranked #19 on the NAIA Preseason Poll way back in November, marking the second consecutive season they opened at that spot This is the highest the Men's Golf team has been ranked in the short history of the program. Holy Names opened the 2003 season ranked #10 on the preseason poll before dropping out of the Top 25 for the rest of the year.
