Transformation
and Growth
For
many students in the Sophia program, the transformational process
they will experience is enhanced through participation in the residential
community. This experience involves students intentionally seeking
a balance between traditional notions of community and privacy while
connecting the processes of personal transformation to our creative
academic curriculum.

Community
Living
At
the beginning each semester students
in the Sophia Resident Community convene in dialogue and reflection
to intentionally identify ideas and ways they will live together in
community while respecting individual rights for privacy, reflection,
and action. On an as needed basis, either a member of the Sophia Residential
Life community, the Director of Sophia Center or Vice President of
Student Affairs may initiate a meeting to discuss:
- the
impact the residential community is having on the student's personal
transformation and/or
- the
impact the student is having on the residential community.
The
community component of the residential program and the meetings are
designed to provide support and context during a period of what can
be considerable personal transformation. Because the academic program
seeks to integrate the mind and the body, religion and science, the
inward journey of personal transformation and the outward journey
of social change, ecology, spirituality and justice, meditation and
restoration, the intellectual and artistic, intentionally connecting
the learning process to the living community has the significant potential
to enhance one's personal transformation.
