Position and Duties
Holy Names University in Oakland, CA is seeking qualified applicants to become Dean of the School of Liberal Arts beginning July 1, 2019. The School of Liberal Arts at Holy Names University encompasses two undergraduate majors (Communication Studies and Interdisciplinary Studies), Integrative Studies Across Disciplines, seven academic areas with 12-18-unit concentrations (Digital Arts, Latin American Latino/a Studies, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Religious Studies, and Writing for Professionals), as well as the disciplines of Art, ESL, and Linguistics.
All programs emphasize the core values of the Holy Names Sisters, including the full development of the human person, a dedication to social justice, and service to people who are poor or marginalized. As the chief academic and administrative officer charged with advancing these core values for the School, the Dean is responsible for oversight of all academic and instructional services through the management and oversight of budgets, contracts, scheduling, and personnel. In addition, the Dean will provide academic leadership to foster a commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship amongst the faculty and for developing and implementing an educational vision for the School that advances its reputation throughout the Bay Area. A fuller description of the duties of the position will be provided to qualified candidates upon request or at the point of being interviewed.
Applicants should have a PhD, preferably in one of the disciplines represented in the School of Liberal Arts, and a minimum of 4 years administrative experience in higher education. Some university teaching experience is preferred.
