About William J. Hynes, Ph.D.
William J. Hynes is the 17th president of Holy Names University. He began his service to HNU on August 1, 2010.
A distinguished teacher, scholar, and educational leader, Hynes holds the Ph.D. and M.A. from the University of Chicago in the History of Christian Thought, another M.A. in Catholic Theology from Marquette University, his BA from Conception College, and Certificates from both Harvard University and the University of Geneva.
Dr. Hynes has served successfully as President of St. Norbert College in De Pere, Wisconsin, Vice-President of Academic Affairs at St. Mary’s College of California, and Dean of the College at Regis University in Denver, Colorado. He has held faculty appointments at all these institutions and taught undergraduates and graduate students for more than 20 years.

About the Inaugural Ceremony
The Inauguration will begin with an academic procession of faculty, staff, students, guests and others.
Music will include performances throughout the ceremony by the HNU Chamber Singers, Oakland Interfaith Choir and HNU Students performing the College Hymn during the Recessional.
In addition to President Hynes’ Inaugural address, speakers will include Bishop Salvatore Cordileone and Bishop John Stephen Cummins as well as representatives of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary (SNJM), staff, faculty, alumni and students.
