What a blast! Here are some photos from our last day. Enjoy!
And a little sol-fa silliness…
We are past the half-way mark in our annual Kodály Summer Institute taking place at Holy Names University in Oakland. The faculty this year is doing a wonderful job!
This weekend, we had our 2013 Children’s Choral Festival hosted by NCAKE and HNU. Choirs performed for Dr. Susan McMane and received valuable feedback, as well as a chance to sing under her direction. Thank you to Dr. McMane, all of the choirs, directors, accompanists and volunteers!
The HNU Chamber Singers gave their final performance of their 2012-2013 season last night – it was wonderful! The HNU Orchestra, directed by Dr. Steven Hofer, joined the choir for the first two movements of Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with Kate Offer, Sarah Hawley-Snow, Jennifer Kay, Seth Arnople and Tim Silva as soloists.
We hope to see you at our future concerts!
Well, not quite. Actually, there is plenty of parking available during the HNU Summer Institute, July 1 – 20, 2013. Have a look at the flyer and registration form, and spread the word if you know someone else who would benefit from these classes. And, no, there is no parking strictly reserved for Hungarians. There’s enough parking for everyone. :)
Despite the chalk dust, early mornings and myriad of old and new faces, the pedagogues at the HNU Summer Institute are really like none other.
“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in the creative expression and knowledge.”

The 2013 HNU & NCAKE Children’s Choral Festival is soon approaching, and we are delighted to have Susan McMane as our guest conductor! Following brief performances by each choir, the festival will conclude with all choirs joining to sing selected songs from Henry Purcell’s A Trumpet Song; Plainchant, In paradisum; Schumann’s Herbstlied; and Bartók’s Baking Bread under McMane’s direction. The festival is free to the public.
Check back for more details!
Are you free this Sunday afternoon? Why not attend the HNU Orchestra Concert at the Valley Center for the Performing Arts at HNU on Sunday, April 21st, 3pm. The HNU Chamber Singers will be special guests at this concert.
Admission for HNU faculty/staff, students and alumni is FREE!, otherwise it’s only $5 students/seniors; $10 general.
NCAKE will offer a $500 scholarship to a returning student who enrolls in Level II of the 2013 HNU Kodaly Summer Institute. The application, which requires a brief essay, is available from the Kodaly Center following receipt of registration for Level II. You may email firstname.lastname@example.org to request the application. The deadline for submissions is May 15, and the scholarship winner will be notified by June 1. If you have questions, please contact Anne at (510)436-1314.
The Faculty and Graduate Student Recital this past Saturday was excellent! We hope to see you at our next performance!
