The community of Holy Names University is profoundly grateful that no person was overtly threatened or physically harmed during yesterday’s events on campus. We are very thankful for the prompt and thorough action by the Oakland Police. We will be conveying our thanks directly to the Police Chief, the City Administrator, and the Mayor.
The police were impressed by the lack of panic and the spirit of cooperation at HNU. Some of our undergraduate students even helped keep our Raskob elementary and middle schoolers calm by playing with them while our Athletic Department opened their secret candy stash!
HNU recently initiated an emergency alert system that will allow students, staff, and faculty to receive emergency communications in a timely manner. We are alsoabout to begin a discussion of our revised and expanded emergency plan. This latest experience makes us all that much more conscious of the importance of being fully informed and prepared for future emergencies.
