HNU’s partner for the 2008 Study Trip to Oaxaca, won the Goldman Environmental Prize, the largest environmental prize in the world today! In January 2008, HNU students and faculty spent two days with the Mixtec people, helping build a greenhouse and doing land reclamation with the Center for Integral Small Farmer Development in the Mixteca (CEDICAM). Last Friday, April 11, two CEDICAM team members spent two hours with our class on Religion in Mexico, and signed copies of their book, which we read for the class.
The 2008 Goldman Environmental Prize winners, with a film clip on CEDICAM founder Jesús León Santos narrated by Robert Redford, can be found at Jesús León Santos | Goldman Prize. Links to the book written by CEDICAM team members and Lay Maryknoll Missioners, Phillip Dahl-Bredine and Steven Hicken, can be found at The Other Game: Lessons on How Life Is Played in Mexican Villages, and Amazon.com.
