An outstanding 2007 season came to an end Saturday, November 3, for the Holy Names University’s Men’s Soccer with a 3-0 loss at Concordia in the Region II Tournament semifinals.

In the other semifinal game, Fresno Pacific defeated Westmont 2-1 in overtime. Fresno will take on Concordia in the championship game Wednesday, with the winner advancing to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Olathe, Kansas.

The HNU Hawks closed their season with a sterling record of 14 victories, 3 losses and 2 ties. The Hawks had closed out the regular season Saturday, October 27, by defeating Simpson University of Redding 3-0. That was the Hawks’ seventh straight victory, a streak during which they outscored their opponents 44-2.

The men had won 11 of their last 13 games and have a record of 14 victories, 2 losses and 2 ties. They were and 7-0-0 in conference play. Their only regular season losses were a pair of 3-2 outcomes against UC Santa Cruz and Sonoma State, both NCAA teams. The Hawks wound up ranked 27th in the nation in the final regular season NAIA Division II poll. Fresno Pacific, which tied the Hawks 1-1 early in the season, is ranked 6th in the country and is seeded 2nd in the Region.
