HNU Event Highlights National Steinbeck Center ProjectAn HNU event featured National Steinbeck Center staff and affiliates who made a 10-day trip from Oklahoma to California, following the path of the Joad family in The Grapes of Wrath and collecting more than 70 oral histories. Project participants said they found parallels between the issues faced by people today and those faced in the setting of John Steinbeck’s legendary tale.

Backpacks to Briefcases Series
The Backpacks to Briefcase series, a collection of workshops and events focused on the transition to life after college, is taking place throughout the spring semester. Organized by Director of the Career Center Sam Rodriguez and HNU Experience Coordinator Andrea Melrose Guimaraes, series topics range from writing a strong resume, to managing finances, to finding a rental.

Catholic Sisters Week Celebrated at HNU
To celebrate National Catholic Sisters Week, Holy Names’ Sisters presented an excerpt of the film Band of Sisters, which chronicles the lives of Catholic nuns after the Second Vatican Council. At each of the three film presentations that took place in March, in conjunction with Women’s History Month, two Holy Names’ Sisters described their own experiences after Vatican II.

Hawks’ Softball Sweeps Doubleheader Against Setters
In a non-conference doubleheader, HNU women’s softball team defeated the Setters from Pace University, 5–4 in nine innings, followed by a 4–1 victory. The team plays the Academy of Art University at Mission Blue Field in Brisbane on April 9 and a home game against Dominican University of California at Thrasher Park in San Leandro on April 12.

Hawks Win Final Dual Match of Colorado Tour
The men’s tennis team played its fourth match in three days on March 30. It was the final match of the team’s road trip to Colorado, which culminated in a 6–3 win against Colorado State University–Pueblo.

Dominic Morbidelli Named Hawk of the Week
The Hawk of the Week for March 31 to April 4 was Dominic Morbidelli, a catcher on the men’s baseball team. The junior studying sports management went 10-for-22, including six RBIs and a two-run home run, during the Hawks’ sweep of Hawai’i Pacific University.

Alumnus Profile: Ryan DeCoud
Ryan DeCoud earned a bachelor’s degree in business marketing and a Master of Business Administration concentrating in management and leadership from Holy Names University. DeCoud now works as a contracts specialist in the Purchasing Department of the Alameda County General Services Agency. He says that the knowledge he gained at HNU has allowed him to think strategically in both his professional and personal life.

Cipriani Featured in Video for Guide Dogs for the Blind
Cipriani Featured in Video for Guide Dogs for the BlindHNU Writer-in-Residence Belo Cipriani is featured in Harnessing the Power of Partnership, a new video released by Guide Dogs for the Blind. Cipriani, who lost his sight in his late 20s, talks about how his life changed when he received his first guide dog.
