Newsreel Features Colleen Corcoran Johnston ’57 in Footage of HNU’s Lake Merritt CampusAbout a decade ago, Kathleen Fisher saw a newsreel at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Oakland and recognized her mother, Colleen Corcoran Johnston ’57, in the short clip. The newsreel featured footage of the demolition of the main building of HNU’s (then College of the Holy Names) Lake Merritt campus and a scene with Johnston–who served as the student body president in her senior year–and three Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Fisher recently contacted the Paramount Theatre to inquire about obtaining a copy to send to Johnston, who lives in Massachusetts. Theatre personnel were able to track down a copy of the footage and they arranged to show the newsreel on August 28.
