Marlo Scott, Founder and owner of Sweet Revenge cupcake, beer and wine bar in New York City, used the opportunity of being laid off from three companies in a row to transform her passion for cupcakes, adventure and travel into a series of successful businesses. She was featured as the April 2011 cover story for Entrepreneur Magazine and a semi-finalist for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year program.

Menbere Aklilu is owner of Salute E Vita Ristorante, located in the historic Marina Bay where Rosie the Riveter and other women constructed Liberty Ships during World War II. Menbere worked her way from being pregnant in a homeless shelter in Rome to becoming owner of Salute and 2008 Contra Costa Business Woman of the Year. Recently Channel 2 in San Francisco featured Menbere opening Salute to 600 homeless diners at Thanksgiving. 2013 marks Menbere's 10th
anniversary that she became owner of Salute.
