Academic Success

The Student Success Center provides Academic Support services to all Holy Names University students. The primary Academic Support service offered through the Student Success Center is peer tutoring which includes one-on-one and group tutoring, as well as a variety of skill building and informational workshops.

The Student Success Center also collaborates with faculty to monitor and support the academic progress of HNU students.

Student Resources

Holy Names University provides the following services and programs as part the Academic Support component of the Student Success Center. The services include:

Tutorial Services

Holy Names University provides a variety of tutorial services, free of charge to HNU students, in a variety of subjects. These services include peer one-on-one, group, and drop-in tutoring. The Student Success Center also provides Academic-Course and Academic-Skills workshops.

One-on-One Tutoring: Students arrange to meet individually with a Peer Academic Liaison (tutor) to review course material, complete assignments and prepare for exams. Students must first request a tutor then schedule appointments regularly or as needed.

Group Tutoring: Students meet with a Peer Academic Liaison (tutor) as a groups to review course material, complete assignments, and prepare for exams. Group tutoring sessions can be scheduled as needed or students may attend Academic-Course workshops.

Drop-in-Tutoring: "Drop-in" tutorial services are available on a first come first serve basis. We strongly recommend that you stop in or call to reserve a time. 

  • English/Math: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 1pm - 8pm.
  • Calculus I, Pre-Calc, Physical Science, Math A, B, C: T, Th 1-5pm
  • English: Mondays, Thursdays 5:30-8pm and Fridays 2:30-5pm

Students are also able to "drop-by" Academic-Course workshops offered throughout the week. Click here for the list of Academic Workshops.

Requesting a Tutor: Requesting tutorial services has never been easier. To request a tutor just complete the onlin Tutor Request Form.

Study Strategies:

Holy Names University offers a library of texts and additional Academic Support resources. These resources are available Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm in Brennan 57A.

Tools To Success- Academic-Skill Workshop Series

The HNU Student Success Center Presents:

Wednesday Tool Box Sessions!

Wednesday Tool Box sessions are held every Wednesday in the cutting-edge Cushing Library Computer Classroom. The Tool Box sessions cover a wide range of Academic-Skill topics such as Time Management, Note Taking, and Test Taking strategies just to name a few.

Afternoon Brown Bag Discussions

The HNU Student Success Center offers Afternoon Brown Bag sessions during which students discuss a wide range of academic topics and personal experiences. Students are encouraged to discuss and share their perceptions, insights and experiences in a group format covering topics such as: Reflection on past semesters, Note taking, Study Skills, Test Taking, and Final Exams.

Sessions will be held bi-weekly and will begin Spring Semester 2008 and will be led by the HNU's Peer Academic Liaison's.

Faculty Support Resources

The HNU Student Success Center collaborates with faculty to provide various forms of support in addition to tutorial services. Faculty can request exam proctoring services, notify students of any concerns related to their classroom or course work performance, and can even recommend students to be tutors for their courses.

Join Our Staff

The Student Success Center peer tutoring program consists of current Holy Names University students who display an exemplary level of leadership and aptitude in courses. The tutors or Peer Academic Liaisons are dedicated to providing tutoring services, while supplementing instructional and classroom learning.
