Resumes and Cover Letters

A resume is a document that is used to apply for internships, jobs, graduate school or scholarships. It provides an outline your skills and experiences that demonstrate your qualifications, and strengths.

In a brief amount of time (could be as short as 30 seconds), your resume should convince the reader that you meet the job requirements and should be brought in for an interview.

Whenever you send out your resume, you’ll want to include a cover letter. The cover letter introduces your resume and highlights your qualifications related to the position for which you are applying.

  • For help getting started on your resume and cover letter, download the PDF of our resume guide and/or attend a resume & cover letter workshop.
  • Once you have a draft of your resume, make an appointment with the career counselor to fine tune it.
  • Post it on CareerBeam so you can apply to jobs online.
