List of Approved HNU Community Partner Sites & Initiatives

  1. The Mother Marie Rose Seminar for Social Justice: During spring break, students travel to Tutwiler, Mississippi to work with Sisters of the Holy Names and to build homes with Habitat for Humanity.
  2. East Bay Habitat for Humanity: Students from HNU work with local communities to build houses.
  3. St. Mary’s Center Pre-School: This pre-school is located next to St. Mary’s Senior Center in North Oakland. 
  4. Leo Center: The Leo Center is a tutoring center for Jr. High and Senior High School students.
  5. Martin De Porres School: St. Martin de Porres Elementary School is located at two campuses: 1) Jr. Hi (grades 6-8) at St. Patrick’s Church at 10th and Peralta and 2) Elementary grades at Sacred Heart Church at 40th St. and MLK.
  6. Catholic Worker: This agency works with the Latina population in East Oakland.  It is a live-in situation where immigrants are welcome and assisted. 
  7. Bouganvillia Senior Housing: This is a highly populated Latina Senior Housing complex.
  8. St. Joseph The Worker: This Bilingual Program for children.
  9. Project Literacy: San Leandro Public Library.

Learning Contracts and Evaluations

Learning Contracts for Students (Click here)

This evaluation is to be completed by the site supervisor and returned to the Sr. Shirley Sexton, Coordinator of Community-Based Learning for Community Development at Holy Names University.\

Each Service Learning Placement requires a written Contract for Learning between the student and the site supervisor. Contracts must be approved by the instructor of the class and Sr. Shirley Sexton, Coordinator of Community-Based Learning for Community Development at Holy Names University.

Any substantial changes in the original contract must be approved by the instructor of the class and Sr. Shirley Sexton

The Contract for Learning must be completed and approved before the student begins the placement.

This evaluation is to be completed by the site supervisor and returned to Sr. Shirley Sexton, Coordinator of Community-Based Learning for Community Development at Holy Names University.

Students in community-based learning projects should review the evaluation questions at the beginning of the experience in order to have a better understanding of the expectations on which they will be evaluated.
