Policy on Student and Resident Health Insurance

All individuals living on campus must have health insurance coverage. Holy Names University encourages all students, regardless of whether they live on campus or not, to have health insurance.

To effect this policy, HNU automatically enrolls all semester undergraduate students, international students, and residents in a health insurance plan specifically designed for college students. Students may decline coverage (see below) if they already have health insurance.

The plan is underwritten by United Health Care.

Steps for Declining Coverage: Students are eligible to decline the HNU plan providing they present evidence that they have health insurance. The waiver form and appropriate documentation must be submitted by the appropriate deadlines.

  1. Download a Waiver Form and submit it, along with a copy of a valid ID and health card to: Holy Names University, Office of Student Affairs, 3500 Mountain Blvd, Oakland, CA 94619; FAX - 510-436-1356; wellness@hnu.edu; Student Success Center; (Brennan 41, 57b or 57c).
  2. Confirmation will be sent to a student's HNU e-mail account.

Deadlines: Failure to waive by these deadlines will result in automatic enrollment in the HNU Health Plan and students will be responsible for the full charge of the health plan.

  • Fall enrollment: Deadline to waive is August 25, 2008
  • Spring enrollment: Deadline to waive is February 15th at Noon.
