Frequently Asked Questions
Who qualifies for TAP?
Under federal guidelines, this program is designed to serve recent college graduates (within 3 years) and mid-career professionals who have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. Highly qualified and motivated undergraduates in their junior and senior year are permitted to enroll on a limited and very competitive basis in pre-TAP graduate and service-learning courses that will prepare them to participate as Interns in the TAP program.
I have all of the requirements. How do I apply to the program?
If you meet the requirements, please contact our office at (510)-436-1195. We will then meet with you and you will be given university and program applications. We will help with any questions you have regarding forms. After your application is complete, we will review and then notify you when a decision has been made.
What if I don’t have all of the requirements right now?
If you do not qualify right now, do not worry. Our staff will be more than happy to speak with you and go over the necessary steps to complete the requirements in order to participate in the program. If you do not qualify for the program, we will give you the steps and forms required to enter the regular credential program.
How do I pay for my tuition?
All TAP participants will receive financial assistance. Students may also apply for financial aid through www.fafsa.ed.gov. In addition, you will also be earning a full time salary of approximately $40,000 per year as an intern teacher while completing the program.
Where will my credential allow me to teach?
Once you have completed all program requirements, you will earn a Preliminary Credential. This allows you to teach anywhere in the State of California.
Will any of my credential units transfer towards a Master’s Degree?
Yes, selected coursework (up to 15 units) can be transferred towards your Master’s Degree. Holy Names offers several options for a Master’s Degree in Education. |
